Navigating the aftermath of a personal injury can be overwhelming, especially when financial concerns arise. After review of the demand package, the adjuster will either comply with the demand in the letter or by making a counter offer to start negotiations from. During negotiations, various offers and counteroffers are exchanged back and forth. The goal is to reach a fair settlement that covers medical expenses, lost wages, and other related costs.

Settlement Agreement

If negotiations lead to a satisfactory offer, a settlement agreement is drafted and your check is sent to Jessica Corley Law Firm. The check is then deposited into the firm’s trust account. Jess will then start negotiating reductions on any health insurance or other liens on your case and reductions on any outstanding balances on your medical bills. Some liens take longer than others to get. Any lien from the Federal Government, like from Medicare or Tricare, will take longer than any other to obtain.

Closing

Once all of your final lien amounts and medical bill reductions are received and the funds from the check have cleared, Jess will meet with you for what is called a closing. During the closing you will sign the documents necessary to finalize the settlement and release any liable parties and receive your settlement check.

We will also review a Settlement Statement that explains all of the money coming in and going out on your behalf. It will detail the funds received, the attorney’s fee, the costs being reimbursed, the liens being paid and the medical providers being paid. Any funds after those deductions will be the value of your check.
